Nicole Smith
Hello and welcome to another episode of Take Control with Nicole and today, I am speaking with the fabulous Ellee Picken all about finding flow with human design. This topic has been on my radar for the longest time so I am so excited to have this conversation today. And firstly, I would love to introduce you to Ellee. With extensive experience in interpreting languages, spreadsheets, and now birth charts. Ellie utilises her highly analytical mind and strong intuition in her spiritual wellness business, ESP Souls. Working with our innate uniqueness and holding a safe space, she provides guidance and genuine connection for her clients in their human design journey. Her understanding of human design has gifted her the permission to find flow in her own life and business. And she feels honoured to be able to share this with others. Thank you so much, Ellee for joining me. Welcome. Hello, I am really excited about this conversation.

Ellee Picken
Thank you so much for having me. It’s yeah, I can’t wait to jump in.

Nicole Smith
Yay, oh so good. This topic, as I said before, this topic has been sort of floating around my world for a while. And then I saw you had started a business in it. And I’m like, uh, let’s do this. Let’s have the conversation. Let me, talk to me all about the thing. How did you first discover that human design was a passion area of yours?

Ellee Picken
Okay, so I kind of same as you just stumbled upon it with a coach that I was working with. And she was, you know, explaining her experience. And I my ears prick up, and I love diving into, you know, personality tests and the Myers Briggs and I’m like, Oh, what is this new thing? And so yeah, I just piece by piece and layer by layer. It’s very dense system and there’s a lot to it. Yeah, just started to study and understand it, and then have a play and experiment implement into my life. Which is then when I just fell in love with how it actually transpired into my life and the profound impact that it had. So I wanted to share that.

Nicole Smith
Yeah, absolutely. Isn’t it wonderful? When you discover something that’s just yeah, it does really have a transformational effect on the way that you are as a human, as a person. I’m a bit of a research geek as well. I love like diving in and knowing all the things and pressing all the buttons and trying all this stuff out. Sometimes it’s not the right fit, but other times what it is, it’s like that, you know, beautiful new shoe that fits in that you don’t get blisters from. Ellee and I used to do dancing together so she’ll know what I mean. Like when you got a new dance shoe that actually doesn’t hurt you it’s unheard of. Always the tape on the ankle.

Ellee Picken
If you find it, you want to shout it from the rooftops.

Nicole Smith
Go and buy the shoes, right? So, human design, can you give us a little bit of like, what is it?

Ellee Picken
Okay, so it is essentially it’s a synthesis of a few existing modalities. So you’ve got some Western astrology and then you’ve got the Chinese iching, the Kabbalah tree of life and the chakra system. And it’s kind of all mixed in together and it is a system unto of itself. But yeah, it’s basically it gives us an understanding of a) the energy that we bring to the world, but then also the energy that we’re here to receive from the world. And so understanding, you know that energy that we bring, we have consistent access to it, it shows up usually in a pretty fixed way, you know that that’s just who we are and how we interact. But then understanding that there are other parts of us where we are actually designed to receive energy. We don’t have consistent access to that because it kind of depends on the environment that we’re in the people that we’re with, even where the planets are at that moment has an impact. And so it does show up in varied ways as well depending on those things. So it gives us a whole bunch of information about ourselves that we can understand. But it also has a really practical element, which is what I love, it’s so easy to implement. And it’s designed as a tool, like it’s not supposed to be restrictive. It’s not dogma, it’s not another list of rules to follow. But it’s something that we can play with and in my experience, it has definitely brought more ease and flow into my life.

Nicole Smith
Yeah, I love that you say it’s not, because I’m all about the, you know, things that we create are a foundation for business, personal, whatever it might be. And then once you’ve built that foundation, it’s not that you’re stuck in concrete, it means that it gives you that, that area and that space to to play and grow and move and explore and be curious about all the things that come into our world at the different moment in time. And it sounds like that’s what this is about another data point really of information that you can acquire about us as humans, or individual humans, not as a collective, and how you can apply that and make it relevant to where you are and your world.

Ellee Picken
Absolutely. And I think that, you know, we can appreciate that we’re all unique, and we all have our individuality. But it’s easy to get caught up in the shoulds and have-to’s and do it this way. And oh, I did it this way, it worked really well so you should do it that way too. And when you strip all of that back, and I think when you see things that you pretty much already know about yourself, like I’m not revealing anything that you know, is completely mind blowing, and you’ve never even considered, but when you see that, or you hear that, from someone that’s never even met you, you know, when it comes up in your chart, and it just is permission giving, it’s just this allowance of ah, that’s actually how I’m designed to be and that’s perfect and that’s okay and I can run with that, rather than trying to, you know, mould that or trying to fit into these top 10 tips for success in every way. You know,

Nicole Smith
You must follow this plan exactly, otherwise, it will not work and you will fail. Yeah, there’s so many, especially in the business space, isn’t there? Like, you’ve got to be, you know, 10k a month business 50k, whatever it is, you know, seven, whatever, that whatever, you know, the top coaches say,

Ellee Picken
And this is how to get there. Yeah,

Nicole Smith
How you get there? Yeah, yeah, exactly. And it’s, you know, all of these things that we discover, it’s the new awareness that most of the time, it’s awareness of the thing that has always been just in front of you. And you just haven’t quite open the door yet to see what’s what’s on the other side. So, talk to me more about power. So if I come to you, and I say, hi, Ellee, I want to start, I want to know, and literally, this is a conversation I’m having with interested in human design. What do we do now?

Ellee Picken
Absolutely. So first off is it is it’s not a personality test, there’s no questions, it is based on your date, time and location of birth. So it does incorporate you know, the astrology components of that. There are so many chart generators online, if you Google human design chart generator you like, or something will pop up. And then when you enter in those details, you’re going to be given a diagram that just looks like a whole bunch of shapes, and lines and arrows, and little symbols and numbers. And that’s where people kind of go, okay, don’t know what to do with this, and there’s usually, you know, some words, but they’re like, super jargon words. So it can be overwhelming and mind boggling,

Nicole Smith
Sounds like the I.T brief documents that I used to receive from our, you know, out I.T support team and, you know, some of the other people in the team were just like, what, like, what is this? And I’m like, oh, that means this because I could, I’m a translator, I could translate it. And it sounds like that’s what you do you translate the chart so that we can actually use it.

Ellee Picken
Exactly right, exactly right. So you don’t have to worry about all of those things when you first get your chart. Like I said, it’s a very layered system so you can kind of start at the top, dip your toe in, take in a few things. The first two elements that come up, type and authority are really easy to integrate and to play with in your life. Then if you’d like that, if you’re finding that it’s, you know, it’s kind of working for you, and it feels good, then you can absolutely dive deeper. But starting with just a couple of basics can actually, in my opinion, have a really profound impact.

Nicole Smith
And so how many different elements are there? Or is it like how long is a piece of string, depending on your combination of birth date, location, time, all the things.

Ellee Picken
So it’s Yeah, it is just absolutely piece of string analogy, you kind of start with your type and your authority. And then you can get more into the centres, which are the shapes that are either coloured in or they’re white. And then you can look at the channels which connect between those centres. And then within the centres, there are gates, which light up, so then that’s the next level. And then you can look at the combination of how they all fit together and what nuance that brings. And then I also have just launched an offer, which actually includes some more of the traditional astrology aspects. And so kind of, meshing the two together, which just shows you the same information, but from a completely different perspective. So it just kind of depends on where you want to go with it and what you want to know,

Nicole Smith
And where you are at this moment.

Ellee Picken
Absolutely

Nicole Smith
I guess we’re looking, all at different moments in time, in our, in our seasons of life, there’s different views that we’re looking at, of lenses, right.

Ellee Picken
And even I think, you know, for, it’s probably the same for lots of things, you know, you might read a book at one point in your life and read it 10 years later and get something completely different. And I think that, yeah, human design can absolutely be that same thing, and that parts of the chart might resonate more for you now where you’re at, and then down the track, it might be another part, you know, kind of feels more true or pops up for you. And so yeah, I don’t think there’s really any limit.

Nicole Smith
That’s amazing. So, if we looked at so the two you start with were authority, and,

Ellee Picken
And type

Nicole Smith
Type. So could we maybe like, you know, people like me on this other side of the Zoom call who have no idea, what would that, how would that look? Like, could you give me an example of that?

Ellee Picken
Absolutely. So in regards to authority, there are quite a few different categories that that do come up. But essentially what that means it is just jargon. And it’s like our internal decision maker.

Nicole Smith
Okay.

Ellee Picken
So rather than making decisions from our mind, which human design is like, our mind is fabulous at doing all of these things. Decision making is not one of them. Yeah. Because we can kind of talk ourselves into and out of any decision, right? Absolutely.

Nicole Smith
When I make decisions, I It’s a feeling for me, it’s like, okay, so this, this is right, like this, I’m doing this, this is what we’re doing right now. And other times, I’m like hmm, it’s not the right tim. There’s still there is some thinking, but it’s really it’s here. It’s like that centre that.

Ellee Picken
Yeah, absolutely. And before, I find it funny, because I was reflecting and before I found human design, I thought that I just wasn’t very good at making decisions. And I thought it was something I needed to practice. And it was a skill that I needed to develop. And then I found out that my authority is emotional authority, which is actually nearly 50% of the population have emotional authority. And the purpose of that is that clarity comes over time. You know, our feelings fluctuate through the day, and we might, you know, be asked to do something and we’re on a high and we say yes, and then we kind of dropped down again and go, oh, God, why did I say that for? Whereas if we give ourselves an hour, a few hours, if we sleep on it, a few days, like whatever it takes to get to the point of going, yeah, this still feels good. I’m going to do that. Or, actually, no, I don’t, I’m just not feeling and then they seem to be decisions that are more in alignment. Whereas someone with sacral authority, which is the second most prevalent, they do have that gut response that yes or no, that, uh huh. But they do need to be asked yes or no question. So open ended questions for them probably isn’t going to work. And so just knowing this about ourselves, like I said, it’s so practical that you can try it. And when you give yourself permission to like, for me, it was you don’t need to respond to every text message straight away. And it’s okay to say thank you so much for asking me, I’ll get back to you in a couple of days. I know It just, I don’t know it just just take some weight off your shoulders and you’re like, can okay I can actually decide what feels right.

Nicole Smith
I can really see how understanding your charts, your human design charts, how it can really positively impact your business world as well, because there are so many decisions as business owners that we make each and every day and opportunities that arise and you know, invited to do this or working with particular clients. And if you know what your your, you know, your authority is allowing yourself to go through those motions. And genuinely, again, I love the word alignment, I use that all the time being really in alignment with what you’re trying to achieve what your your your business focuses, your personal focus. It would make it much more enjoyable, I would imagine, experience. Because you know that you’ve made those decisions properly. I love it when the words are not, Kathy, my friend Kathy would love this episode, because I’m just being stumbling. And this is. you’ll have to listen to a couple of episodes, I did an episode with her. And she called me out right in the middle. And I love her because I love it when she does

Ellee Picken
Fabulous.

Nicole Smith
She’s like Nicole, you sound beautiful. But can you just talk to me, please? But yeah, awareness. I wasn’t aware that I was, you know, performance voice because I’m come from musical background, right theatre background? Yeah, the same becoming aware of your design, how that can really flow through to all aspects.

Ellee Picken
Absolutely. I think Maya Angelou said, you know, we know better we do better. And I just think that, yeah, having that knowledge and having that awareness, like, how powerful to bring into life.

Nicole Smith
Yeah. So how do you support your people? How do you bring them on their journey from when they’re kind of just like peering over the fence, going ohh what’s she doing? What’s this all about, to give me all the things!

Ellee Picken
Absolutely. So what I would say is, I’ve actually created a free ebook that exclusively for your listeners, as a perfect starting place. So how to generate your chart, what it all means, and then going into type and authority. And I’m happy to chat a little bit more about type as well, because that can be something quite significant in business, and yeah a really good starting place. But I will, I’ve sent you the link. So your listeners should be able to download that and just as something that they can get started with, before, you know, diving headfirst into all of the things

Nicole Smith
Wonderful, I’m going to put that make sure that’s in the show notes as well for everyone. So pop on over there and have a look in do you get the free ebook, do it do it?

Ellee Picken
Yay. So um, yeah, the first element that you kind of do look at is your type. And type is associated with strategy, which is kind of just a suggestion or some guidance on how to interact with the world. And so there are five different types. And I’ll start off, I’ve kind of, in my mind, I have a bit of an analogy. So we’ll see how it goes, talking it through with someone who’s not me.

Ellee Picken
Can I just say I love this, because when I support my clients to design their processes and build their, you know, their processes out one of the key elements is getting someone who has no idea. So in this case, Nicole Smith on this side of the microphone, has no idea what is going on to actually experience it. So this is amazing. Ticking two boxes off, let’s go, let’s go.

Ellee Picken
Okie dokie. So in my mind, I see it as like kinda like a tribe. And say there’s a hundred odd people in this tribe living together and the first group or the first type that we have are manifesters. Now manifesters are our initiators. They make things happen. They’re like the fire starter. No one’s asked them to build the fire. No one’s shivering in the corner going, oh, I’m cold. Like they just get this creative spark and they’re like, I’m gonna make fire. And so they’re about, around about 8-9% of the population. So they’re actually not that many in amongst us. And so their strategy is to inform. And so, say everyone was out in the fields picking berries and the manifester gets this hit that they just need to go and build a fire. The strategy is to inform everyone, it’s not to ask permission, it’s not to explain it or explain why it’s just to say, hey everyone, I’m actually going to go and build the fire. And that is the purpose for that. Is it eliminates resistance, you know, if they just take off and don’t tell anyone, then we’re like, wait, where did they go? What are they doing? Like what’s going on?

Nicole Smith
Why are they picking berries? I don’t want to pick the berries. Why do they get to go over there, I want to go over there. Yep, yeah

Ellee Picken
Yes. So and so they’ll go off and make the fire. And then they might have a rest, because they kind of have these cycles of generating and then resting. And so if you apply that to business, it is very much about follow what those creative sparks, you know, you don’t have to sit there in your mind, going oh what do I create? What’s going to sell? And where do I take my business, just follow those sparks, but inform your audience. So if you need to, if you get this drop in of, I’m going to go and write a book, and spend three months doing that your audience will be so okay with that, if you inform them, Hey, guys, I’m just gonna go and write this book, I’ll be back when I’m done. And then there’ll be they’re waiting for you. So it’s not about having to show up consistently. But it’s just about that dialogue and that communication. So then, the second and third group, so we’ve got generators and manifesting generators. Manifesting generators are kind of like a hybrid, but they do have a lot of similarities to generators. So in terms of strategy, they both share the same one. So generators are kind of like our builders. Okay, they have in their chart, there’s a centre called the sacral Centre, which is like a red square. If you’ve got that you’re either a generator or a manifesting generator. And what that is, is you bring energy as in like physical energy, and you have like a stamina about you, which is why they like the builders. Now, I do want to expand on that, because I think there’s a little bit of, can be some misunderstanding, in that. Like you said, I don’t want to pick berries all day, but I have the energy to do that. No, their sacral centre is like fueled by joy. So when you have, when you find something that lights you up, and you feel joy, you will have the energy to just go and go and go and be creating, and you’ll be doing and you won’t need to stop for lunch, because you just be so in the flow.

Nicole Smith
Sounds a little bit like me, to be honest. I’ll listen to all of them. And then it’ll be really interesting. So I want to go and do the things afterwards and see

Ellee Picken
Fabulous. Yes. So it is about finding the joy to give you that energy. So if you’re in a job that just absolutely drains you and there’s no joy in it, you’re not going to have the energy to do it, you might not even relate to being a generator or a manager, because you’re like, Oh, my God, I’m so tired all the time, I do not have any, like I don’t have consistent energy. But it’s just that you don’t have the right fuel source to get you going. So their strategy is to wait to respond. So they’re not here to no one’s here to sit in their mind and kind of try and logic it out. But it’s not about a gut feeling or a creative spark. It’s about being really aware and observing what’s going on in your world. Because that sacral is like a magnet. And when you’re doing things that you enjoy that you’ve got that fuel source, it is just, it magnetises even more so you draw things into your world to then respond to. And it can be a yes, and it can be a no. Doesn’t, you don’t have to be yes all the time. But it is about having that awareness waiting for things to come into your orbit before you then go off and do. So for example, in our tribe, it might be that the manifester comes over and says I finished with the fire. Can you just look after it while I go off and, I don’t know, build a new fishing net. And the generator or the mani-gen can then respond if it feels good if their guts like, yes, I want to do that. They go and do if it’s a no, they say no and they wait for the next thing and it might be you know, someone needs x y and z and that feels right and they go and do that. So in terms of business I think that it’s really important to have interaction with your audience. And just being really present. And being observant, will give you those opportunities to respond to. So it might be, say, for example, in your membership lounge, I don’t know if you’ve got like a discussion forum, but say someone posts something and says, oh my gosh, my business budget, I can’t figure it out, like, I don’t know what I’m doing, then that is something that’s come into your world that you can then respond to, if you hate, finance and budgeting, then you leave it alone, and no, thanks onto the next one. But if if that’s your jam, you’re like, ah, I can help out with that. Yeah, I could do a workshop, or I could do, I could create, like a course. Or I could, you know, create some sort of one on one. And we sit down and go through everything. So yeah, it’s about being responsive to your audience’s needs, rather than sitting in your office and going, oh, what should I create next?

Nicole Smith
Yeah, that makes total sense though doesn’t it. Like, you know, especially if you’ve got, you know, like my members lounge, you know, my community in there, they’re all, we’re all very, all action takers. We all, you know, love doing our thing that lights us up, gives us joy. But it’s beautiful that we come together. And there’s these wonderful conversations that occur inside and everyone has this different view on it. And it’s beautifully woven together. And the, the depth of the conversation sometimes is, is beautiful. It’s just, you know, I walk away every time just feeling so grateful that I’ve got these humans in my world. But it’s very, very true. You know, when there’s something that someone’s looking for, even in like Facebook, there’s so many communities out there.

Ellee Picken
Even with, you know, the mums at school, like if you’re just having a conversation, and they’re chatting about, you know, whatever it may be, whatever your area of expertise is, then there are so many opportunities to respond, if you’re aware of that and looking for them. And they’re about I think it’s somewhere between 65 and 70% of the population. So, yeah, high chances,

Nicole Smith
In good company.

Ellee Picken
Yep, absolutely. There are a few little differences in qualities and characteristics between the generators, and manifesting generators And generators, are really here to master something. So they might have a few things going on, in the same wheelhouse. But ultimately, they’re kind of going to really go deep, and master their thing. Manifesting generators, called multi passionate beings, they might have a lot of things on the go, that they’re just got a toe in here and a toe in there, and they’re doing this and doing that, or they might like to change quite quickly. And so, you know, one, they’re doing one thing, and then that doesn’t line up anymore. So off, they go and do something else. And that’s perfect for them. And I think that there’s a real they can struggle with that. Because the world says that we’re not supposed to be like that. We’re supposed to see it through, finish what you start, you know, if you make a commitment, like just stick to it no matter what.

Nicole Smith
I’m just giggling here, because I’m thinking about some conversations, you know, you have with your parents, in their generation, it was, you work for someone and you’re there, that’s your career. Whereas now, you know, I’ve started a business. That’s what my journey like I’ve done the corporate thing and wasn’t lighting me up anymore. So I’m now I’m doing a thing that I love doing. And it’s so different, isn’t it like from when they were starting their careers, you know, being that seen as the loyal person, whereas now it’s so you just go with the flow when this again, understanding, you know, your type and all of that would really help you to go ahead and move on through that and with awareness and allowing yourself the permission to make those decisions and changes and choices.

Ellee Picken
Yeah, yeah.

Nicole Smith
Hello, there. I’m just interrupting this episode, as I would love to invite you to come on in and join us inside the members lounge. My community have shared with me that they joined initially, because they really wanted to discover the power of ClickUp. They wanted to be able to design, build and connect their ClickUps within their own individual businesses. However, once they were Inside, they really discovered how the power of looking at the foundations of your operational areas of your business, and designing those really to set you up for success is such a powerful element. And guess what else, we have a fabulous community inside. So once you’re in, you’re never gonna want to leave. So come on over, have a look, go to my website, theartisans.com.au and pop up to the members lounge button at the top. And we look forward to supporting you as you discover how fabulous it is when you’re confidently striding down easy street, see you inside the lounge.

Ellee Picken
And then, so the next type that we have projectors, and this is my type. And they’re here to be the guides. So they don’t have that defined sacral that stamina energy, were quite efficient in small blocks of time. But we need a lot of rest and you know some downtime in there as well. And so when I first learnt that, I saw myself as the completely out of alignment, unhealthy projector that was working two jobs, and would work an eight hour day and then drive to the next job. And just if there was a blank space in my calendar, I was filling it. Whereas now I’ve been able to create my schedule and I have whitespace everywhere, like in bookends, everything and it just means that I am yeah, can can leave with more flow. So coming back to our tribe. They are, like I said, they’re the guides. They’re here to have a lot of wisdom. And they are good at systems and efficiency. But the thing is, so say, say the generators now looking after the fire, right? Manifest is doing whatever. And the projector comes over. And the generator might ask them Oh, okay, so looks like a storms coming. How do I like, you know, protect this fire? Like, what do I need to do to make sure that it’s going to last? Or do you have any advice on building it bigger, or, oh, we should maybe cook something on that whatever. The thing is, projectors are amazing in that space. But if I came over or if the projector came over to the generator, looking after the fire, and said, Ah, there’s a storm coming, you should build a thing to protect the fire and oh but if you put some more logs on there, it’d be heaps bigger. And oh have you thought about cooking something on there. I think we could mostly relate to having that advice, like thrust upon us that we didn’t ask for. And we’re like, no, thank you. I didn’t ask you. I’m not gonna listen.

Nicole Smith
Oh, you just opening my mind. It’s just, so yeah, I was, always been a problem solver. And sometimes, yeah, we need to just sit back.

Ellee Picken
Absolutely

Nicole Smith
We don’t need to give you all the things.

Ellee Picken
So the projectors strategy is to wait for the invitation. Yeah. So when you’re invited, then whoever it is, is going to be so much more receptive of what you have to say. And it’s this beautiful open channel. Yeah. And funnily enough, so projectors are only about 20 to 22% of the population. But a lot of the chart itself has projected channels, now that’s going off in a whole other direction. And like, I’m not even going to make heads spin. But there are a lot of components that we, it’s not about forcing ourselves onto you know, different situations. But waiting to be then able to have a beautiful connection and reciprocated, you know, energy exchange. So,

Nicole Smith
I’m loving this conversation. I am so glad you joined me today because this is I know, I knew I’ve known for the longest time. I mean, I wanted to get in in this space. Yes. You know what I’m doing when we stopped recording right?

Ellee Picken
Yeah, we’re staying on Zoom and doing a consult.

Nicole Smith
Oh, I’m so interested. Sorry. There’s probably another type isn’t there?

Ellee Picken
Yes. So I do just want to elaborate so in terms of what that looks like in business, and I think for me, I have a really interesting perspective, because I would say for most people, they would set up their business, you know, learn all the strategy and do all the things and then discover Human Design later and go, oh, maybe I could do things this way or that way or whatnot. Whereas I knew it before I even started my business. So it has, it’s definitely had some pros and cons. And I’ve had a lot to learn in the strategy side of things because I was just like, all energetics. And I was like, ah, you know, this is how I work. And I’m going to do it this way. And I still had to learn, you know that you do have to do certain things for the algorithm to work and whatnot. But I think one big thing in doing, you know, that study and being in spaces with people who are more experienced in business, I was able to apply that, that projector lens or that type of lens onto whatever they were saying. So anytime someone says that cold calling or cold messaging needs to be a part of your plan, I’m like, nope, I need to be invited. It’s not going to work, I can’t just jump into people’s DMS, they’re like, it’s just all resistance. And so I know that the whole concept of wait for the invitation. When you first hear that it can feel a bit disempowering, and a bit passive. You’re like, okay, so what do I just sit in my lounge room waiting for someone to knock at the door. But when we reverse engineer it, and we go, okay, so, to be invited or to receive an invitation, we first need to be recognised, and to be recognised, we need to be seen and show up. And so what that means, if you’re a projector in business, is learning all the things, doing what you love becoming an expert, showing up, not trying to sell or be like, hey, buy my thing, or this is what like, here’s how to work with me, it’s just, this is what I’m doing. This is what I know, this is my experience. You know, for example, I might share something that human design I used in my day to day and I just share that, which then means that my audience see that. And if they recognise the wisdom, and the expertise in that, then they will invite me into their inbox, to work with them, to create something specifically for them. So it doesn’t have to be a passive process. But when you accept that there has to be recognition and there has to be an invitation first. It can be really scary because you kind of like taking your hands off the wheel. But in my experience that has been where the magic is and where the flow is. So

Nicole Smith
I absolutely agree with that. You know. I want to say all of my clients have been either word of mouth or they stalking me on socials, which is so strange. The first time that that happened, I was at an event and somebody came up to me and was like, I’ve been watching you on the socials. And I was like you have? Oh okay, all right, that’s such a weird thing. Um, but in because I do show up on the socials. And because I love to, it’s, for me it’s connection. It’s like, hey, this is what I’m doing. Or I just like yesterday, I think my story was about my the Pomodoro sessions. And yes, I got so much done and I love Pomodoro, like do you to use Pomodoro? Do you,

Ellee Picken
I don’t, no, but yep.

Nicole Smith
Amazing. It’s, anyway, if it feels right for you. I mean, I got so much done. And it was just fun and like, like, yes, let’s talk about Pomodoro. And if one person can walk away and be like, Pomodoro is amazing. And I got so much done. I’m like, Yes, you did. Hello, that’s amazing. You know, there’s no real intent unless, you know, I’m doing open doors or something like that. But I’ll tell you about it. I’m not going to force you to join or come at you no can ever do that. We all make our own decisions. So when it’s the right time, it’s the right time. And I think when we learn that, like cold calling, and all of that is a strategy and some it works well for some people. Yes, definitely not in my wheelhouse. Doesn’t feel right for me. Yeah. So yeah.

Ellee Picken
And I guess there’s one more to talk about, which is the 1% of the population. So I’ll kind of just touch on it. But before I do, if you’re listening to this, or if you start looking into human design, and you read your type and you recognise yourself, it may be something else. Like maybe you read the projector part and oh, yeah, no, that feels like me. But my charts come out as a generator, there is so many elements to your chart, just because you are one type doesn’t mean that your profile or your centres or the channels that come through for you don’t have those elements to it as well. So it’s a great starting place, but it’s not the be all and end all. So yeah, if you’re if you’re getting started, and things aren’t feeling quite, like they might kind of resonate. But also, yeah, don’t know about that, you can absolutely dive deeper and explore more, it is just like the top of the funnel. So I will jump into the last one, which is reflectors, just in case anyone is out there. Like I said, roughly 1% of population. And these are when you generate your chart, usually you have some coloured in shapes, and some white. Reflectors are completely white. They have no coloured in centres at all. And essentially, they’re like, mirrors. So back to our tribe. We’ve got 100 people, there’s one reflector, and we can look to them to kind of gauge almost like a thermometer, right? Where the tribe is at. If they’re sitting in the corner, you know, in the foetal position not doing great, then there’s probably some things going on in the tribe. Whereas if they’re up and happy and running around and you know, big smiles, then that is reflective of where we’re at. So the reflector’s strategy, and this is for, like, big decisions is to wait 28 days, right. Yeah. So they are considered to be lunar beings, so have a really strong relationship with the moon. And it takes the moon 28 days to go through an entire cycle of the different parts of the sky, which light up different parts of the chart. So once they’ve gone through that, they can then have clarity on what was just the energy at the time, or what was the people around them at the time. And they’ll know, in themselves if it’s something that they should proceed with or not. Obviously, you can’t do that with a lot of stuff. Like, if you’re running a business and suppier goes, we’ve run out of stock of this one are you’re happy with this? You can’t just wait a month. So you know, just see how it feels. But if you’re creating a business, or if you’re changing direction, or you’re bringing out a new offer, if you can give yourself that time and space to just wait it out and see how it feels across that month before you sign any paperwork. The other thing with reflectors, so because they have all open centres, they’re probably not going to work, going to want to work nine to five, they’re going to want to have rest in between. And they’re going to work really well with a team because they can then delegate and they tap into different people’s energies and they can access that. But having said that, you want to then be really mindful of who is in that team and who is in your environment. And most of us do have some open centres, so that is relevant for everyone, but if you’re reflective that is especially so because you’re going to tune into the energy of the people around you and so and reflect that back. So that’s the five types and that’s really just in a nutshell.

Nicole Smith
Very interesting. It is just so, it’s kind of like um, I don’t know, is it star signs, is it connected to that as well or not, completely separate?

Ellee Picken
So star signs are in astrology. Yeah, human design doesn’t incorporate you know, your Aries or Scorpio things in I do because I combine the two. But yes, it is similar,

Nicole Smith
Because it’s really like because I’m a Scorpio and your November baby to aren’t you? No?

Ellee Picken
No, I’m a Leo.

Nicole Smith
How did I get that wrong? Anyway, I’m a Scorpio and there is a lot of Scorpio traits so I’m fiercely loyal.

Ellee Picken
Yep.

Nicole Smith
Family, friends, you know, don’t mess with them. Don’t mess with them. Because that’s not fun. Yeah, it’s really interesting when you learn a little bit about things and how then you are kind of put a lens on your world and how it connects, you know, not by the book, but you know, it’s really interesting situations come up and they’re like, oh, yeah, that makes sense.

Ellee Picken
Yes. And we are all nuanced and individual and unique and we’re all shaped by our experiences and our environment. And so there’s never going to be a system that, you know, can sum up everything about you and be 100% bang on. But when we can bring this information into our awareness, and then run it through our own filter, and take what feels good, and leave what doesn’t and see how it feels, then, yeah, I just think there’s so much scope for what we can do with that,

Nicole Smith
Just can see how it could really connect, understanding us as human as business owners, and flowing through the business and making the decisions. And I talk about designing your day and designing your business. And, you know, creating and connecting it all together. And there’s just so many elements that you’ve spoken about today that, with that awareness, as you go through that design process and that creation process. Just feel so much more in alignment with what you want to do in your world. So

Ellee Picken
And then I think it also, when you can see yourself and accept yourself with where you’re at. There’s more grace with other people knowing that they show up completely differently. And they’re going to have completely different charts to us. And, I mean, if you’re like me, and you know, all your family members times of birth, and you’ll generate all of their charts and go, oh, I could say this in you, and you know get it understanding. But even if you’re, if you’re working with a team, depending on how friendly you get with your team, you might be able to get their birth chart. But it’s just that awareness and that understanding that, you know, I’m a projector and I need certain things. And someone else might be a manifesting generator, and they’re gonna go really fast and do this, and then this, and then this, and then this. And I’m still, you know, studying and learning and sharing and going, oh, we should do it this way because that’s going to flow better. And like, we’re all just so different. And we don’t need to, I guess, put those expectations aren’t to anyone else. It’s just the way that we do it. Yeah. And that’s okay.

Nicole Smith
It’s like, um, a few years ago, I did some work around communication styles, communication types, and how it was the four quadrants. And, you know, I was working with someone who was a very direct communicator. And before I’d done that, I always knew he was, but before I had learned about the styles, and how he likes to receive information, and then I adjusted the way that I delivered the information for him. It just, it was just a fabulous experience. And that’s something that I do, I’ve always been very aware of other people and how they communicate. But this again, will take that to the next level.

Ellee Picken
Knowledge is power,

Nicole Smith
Knowledge is power. Data is power, knowing all the things, and then knowing how to apply it to your world and that makes it feel right. Because then you can genuinely show up as who you are. And guess what happens and you attract the people who love being around people who are like you, you’re like me, and it’s just this beautiful thing that happens. And I’ve experienced that in business that you know, the moment I allowed myself to actually wear bright colours and headbands in my hair and you know, I you know, dancing, glitter nail polish I have, like, for years, it’s just my go to and, you know, but really, just and people love because this is who I am. If you meet me here, on Zoom or in person at a cafe or an event, same person. So ah, amazing. Is there anything else you think we need to know? Before we wrap up the conversation, and I ask you the three fabulous questions that I ask all my guests?

Ellee Picken
I think that that’s gonna be a really good starting place. Like I said, have a look at the e-book. If this is kind of, you know, making you a little bit curious. Got got some cells fizzing. And then yeah, take it from there. But yeah, just ease yourself in, there’s a lot to it.

Nicole Smith
I’m so excited to discover, really I’m like what am I gonna be? Alright, okay, let’s do the questions. So, what is your go to app that creates ease in your day?

Ellee Picken
Okay, I hesitate to say this because I haven’t been using it lately, which is probably explains a lot. But I would have to say Insight Timer. Meditation, even if it’s five minutes just means I am operating at just so much more zen, it just take the edge off. So yes,

Nicole Smith
Fabulous. Yeah, that’s a good one. It’s been quite a few people mentioned Insight Timer as their go to app. It’s so I love this question because people can take it this way or that way. You know, many people share their productivity tools and things like that. But I really love when you’re like, no, this is the thing I use every day and it makes me feel amazing, awesome. Online, paper, or hybrid to-do list lover?

Ellee Picken
So definitely paper. But I’m trying to learn to love online. Because I have so many journals and books, and loose pieces of paper fluttering around my apartment and it’s only a small apartment. So I think that, especially with business, it just feels like it might be a better way to go is to have it online, but I haven’t quite fallen in love with it yet.

Nicole Smith
Something about a notebook and a nice pen. You know, there really is,

Ellee Picken
I’m a sucker for are a nice pen.

Nicole Smith
I got a colleague that he loves stationery, and we were on a call this week and he’s like, I’ve got another order coming in. And I’m like, yes, you do. Amazing. Love it. So good. Okay, what would you do if you created more space in your world?

Ellee Picken
Read more books.

Nicole Smith
Now, is it true that you share book recommendations in your email?

Ellee Picken
I do. Once a month for 2022. I’m sharing three book recommendations with my email list. So if you like to read that is, where to yeah, see what I’m up to?

Nicole Smith
Oh, it well this segways perfectly into where can we find you?

Ellee Picken
Yes. Beautiful. So I’m mostly hanging out on Instagram, @espsouls, can find me on my website, espsouls.com. And definitely have a look at the link for the free ebook if today’s info is yeah, something that you want to look into.

Nicole Smith

So amazing. Well, thank you so much for joining me and I’m really excited to dive into human design and see the elements in my charts and how it can really move from, you know, awareness into what I can be, or might already be doing exactly what I should be doing.

Ellee Picken
You may already be there, because if you’re in alignment, it’s actually funny, these things just tend to be the way that we show up. So absolutely. Thank you so much for having me. I’ve loved this conversation.
